Saturday, September 27, 2008, I made my third trip to visit the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, AL.  I had mentioned on a couple of motorcycle forums that I would like to go again so a couple of other riders joined me.

I left early and met a friend and fellow VFR rider from Murfreesboro, TN on I-65 at Columbia, TN.  We ate breakfast and then headed further south where we met a V-Strom rider and his father-in-law at Cullman, AL.  After gassing up our bikes we headed a little further south to Birmingham, AL. and got to the museum just as it was opening.

The museum is absolutely astounding, and is a mecca for motorcycle enthusiasts.  There are motorcycles on display of every vintage from 1900 to the present day.  The bikes on display are always changing and I've seen a distinct evolution in the three time I've been there.

I didn't take as many photos this time as I did on the two previous trips because a lot of them would have been repetetive.  While they do change the displays around they don't change everything in the museum, that would be very intensive.  The museum is 5 levels tall, although the lowest level is the "Restoration Level" and is not open to the public.  Trips I and II contain about 275 photographs total and today I add about another 93 or so.  There should be something in one of the trips for just about everyone!

Kelly, Shea, and James, thanks for going.  I appreciate the company and I'm really glad you could join me.  Something like that is far more fun in the company of others who share the interest than it is by myself.

PHOTOGRAPH NOTES:

  • All of the photos below are links to larger photographs.  You can click any of the photos to view a larger one.
  • Most of the photographs have an accompanying placard that shows information about the display.  I've arranged the photographs so that the placard is displayed first and then the vehicle that it describes.
  • On some of the rows I intentionally omitted the last column to preserve the ordering of the photos.  If the column is blank it's because I was trying to keep placards and vehicles on the same row.
