Notes!
  • It is very important that you enter the values in DECIMAL and not fractions!  Converting fractions to decimal is very simple, all you do is divide the bottom part of the fraction into the top part.  For example, to convert 1/16" from a fraction to a decimal just divide 1 by 16 and the result is 0.0625.  To convert 17/64 from fraction to decimal simply divide 17 by 64 and you will get 0.265625.

Converting inches to decimal feet is simply a fraction conversion.  Four inches, for example, is just 4/12 of a foot.  Likewise, 7 inches is just 7/12 of a foot.  To convert inches to decimal feet just divide the inches by 12.  Four inches = 4 / 12 = 0.33333.  Seven inches = 7 / 12 = 0.58333.

Example 1 You know that the wingspan of a full-sized McDonnell- Douglas F-4E Phantom II is 38'-4" (or 38.33333') and want to know how many inches that would be at 1/32 scale.
  1. Set the first field (I want to convert this distance) to the wing span (38.33333)
  2. Set the first units field (Using this unit type) to "Feet"
  3. Set the "From this scale" field to 1 for full-sized.
  4. Set the second scale field (I want to convert to this scale) to 32 for 1/32 scale
  5. Set the second units field (Using this unit type) to "inches"
  6. Click the [Click Here To Calculate] button
The result of 14.3750 inches is shown on the right of the screen.

Example 2 You know that the beam of a 1/200 scale warship is 8.325 inches and want to know what size that would be in millimeters at 1/700 scale.
  1. Set the first field (I want to convert this distance) to the distance (8.325)
  2. Set the first units field (Using this unit type) to "Inches"
  3. Set the "From this scale" field to 200 for 1/200.
  4. Set the second scale field (I want to convert to this scale) to 700 for 1/700 scale
  5. Set the second units field (Using this unit type) to "millimeters"
  6. Click the [Click Here To Calculate] button
The result of 60.4158 millimeters is shown on the right of the screen.

Example 3 You know that the beam of a 1/200 scale warship is 8.325 inches and want to know what size that would be in millimeters at 1/700 scale.
