Waterfalls

I love waterfalls and Tennessee has a lot of them.  Not the huge plunge waterfalls of some areas nor waterfalls with a million gallons per minute flowing over, but still a lot of very scenic falls.  Depending on the source and the definition of "Waterfall" (which really means any place that water falls) there are either 500+ or around 50 in Tennessee.  I decided that I wanted to visit most of them and the photographs below are the story of my journey.  Some are big, some are small, all of them are in Tennessee.

Part of the reason I haven't visited more is the fact that most of them are in east Tennessee and I'm in middle Tennessee (which means a trip of a couple of hundred miles).  So far I've visited about 24 of them so regardless of the schedule used I have a way to go.  I'm working on that.

My personal definition of the difference between "Plunge" and "Cascade" waterfalls is that "Plunge" waterfalls are waterfalls in the accepted sense of the phrase.  Water falls over the edge of a cliff or drop and the water "Plunges" to the bottom of the fall.  "Cascade" waterfalls are waterfalls that run downhill on a relatively steep grade, and may occasionally fall over a rock for a foot or two, but they don't normally "Fall" very far.  While cascades are frequently quite scenic I tend to categorize them more as a white-water flow than a waterfall.

If I don't have photographs of them it is normally for one of several reasons:

o  I couldn't find the waterfall (not uncommon since some are on private property)
o  I didn't feel like hiking down the side of a mountain to get photographs
o  It was just a little "Cascade" that really wasn't worth the effort of stopping for photographs
o  It was such a minor "Fall" that it really wasn't worth the effort of stopping for photographs
